Most new-age plastics are derived from fossil fuel-based petrochemicals such as natural gas or oil. Packaging is usually made of plastic materials and is used to protect, transport, store and distribute products. Plastic packaging is a very important material that facilitates daily life.
Plastic Packaging Types
Pet (Polyethylene terephthalate) Packaging is a thermoplastic material belonging to the Polyester family.
PVC (PolyVinyl Chloride) Packaging, Vegetable oils and shampoo bottles, bleach and clear liquid detergent containers, liquid motor oil bottles, artificial leathers, window cleaning products, fresh meat containers, ketchup bottles, soft toys, electrical insulation, roofing materials, pipes and window frame materials are made of PVC.
PP (PolyPropylene) Packaging is a material resistant to chemical substances, heat and extreme fatigue. They are plastics with medium hardness and gloss. It is the least used of the plastics used in packaging.
PS (PolyStyrene) Packaging, It can be rigid and foam, It is a versatile and purposeful plastic. It is a very hard, brittle and shiny plastic.
PE (Polyethylene) Packaging is the type of plastic we use most in our homes. It has many uses such as bleach, detergent and shampoo bottles, motor oil bottles, garbage bags.
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a very robust and economical material. It has a wide range of uses because it is low cost, easy to shape and resistant to breakage.
LPDE (Low Density Polyethylene), PC (Polycarbonate) Packaging, Polycarbonate is a very durable material, used for making bulletproof glass.

Recycling of Plastic Packaging
The generally applied ways for recycling plastic packaging are as follows;
First, the plastic packaging collected in containers is subjected to a coarse sieving process in the first stage at the collection and sorting facility where they are brought. In this section, the plastic packages separated according to their types are reduced to smaller volumes by trimming, washed and dried and stocked. After the crushed particles are separated according to their density (PET, PE, PVC… etc.), a second wash is performed with chemicals. After the rinsing and metal control processes following the washing, the particles pass through the drying process and then go to the extruder. Extruder is an equipment that melts and granulates the broken and cleaned plastic particles. Plastic packaging coming out of the extruder is thus granulated. These granules can enter production as primary raw materials. Recycling plastic packaging is very beneficial for nature.
